Welcome to the April issue of Synergy Energy Inc. Newsletter.

"Genius is 1% inspiration & 99% perspiration"--Thomas Edison

One of our greatest pioneers once said, "in the struggle for survival, the fittest win out at the expense of their rivals because they succeed in adapting themselves best to their environment. Change with your business or be left behind. It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the ones most responsive to change"--Charles Darwin.

To copy-produce and repeat what all others are doing is not an achievement. There is no sense or reward in being a follower, but to be a leader, set landmarks, and spark the desire in others to follow your lead is definitely a great accomplishment.

Building towards its mission To Save Energy and Improve Power Quality, Synergy Energy Inc. is a leader and a premier designer and manufacturer of dry-type copper wound electromagnetic devices for the electrical power challenges of the 21st Century.

All products released by Synergy Energy Inc. are custom designed with the utmost excellence, as great engineering expertise in conjunction with care and understanding for the customer's needs are continually utilized.

Throughout production, all units undergo a rigorous quality control routine accompanied by their own unique bar code, creating a strictly controlled production tracking system that eliminates human error(s). Such unique harmony allows Synergy Energy Inc. to not only meet but rather far exceed industry-wide manufacturing expectations.

In this months newsletter, another product of Synergy Energy Inc. that falls under the "harmonic mitigating" category will be introduced.

The VFDS (Variable Frequency Drive Solution) is a high efficiency device. It is specifically designed to mitigate the 5th and 7th harmonics created by a nonlinear load such as a Variable Frequency Drive. The VFDS is very efficient, reliable, and a long lasting electromagnetic based device.

nonlinear loads - sources of harmonics

The VFDS takes advantage of phase shifting to mitigate the targeted harmonics that have been created from another source. The reduction of the 5th and 7th harmonics provides cleaner voltage to the other equipment in the facility as well as reduces equipment malfunctions and failures.

The VFDS is to be installed upstream of a linear load and downstream of the busbar or the riser. This unit has been designed in such manner that all connection points are accessible from the front.

Once the product is ready for shipment, Synergy Energy takes great precautions as the units in gray NEMA-3R enclosures
are shrink-wrapped along with corner protectors. Afterwards, the unit is placed on Synergy Energy's unique SmartSkid® which possesses unparalleled advantages.

Last but not least, Synergy Energy Inc. provides one of the longest warranties in the business and the VFDS is given 15 years pro-rated one.

It was Mario Andretti who said, "desire is the key to motivation, but it is the determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal-a commitment to excellence-that will enable you to attain the success you seek".

Did you know?

A nonlinear load in a power system is characterized by the introduction of a switching action and consequently current interruptions. This behavior provides current with different components that are multiples of the fundamental frequency of the system. These components are called harmonics. (Harmonics were discussed in Synergy Energy's February issue).

Some examples of nonlinear loads that can generate harmonic currents are computers, fax machines, printers, PLCs, refrigerators, TVs, and electronic lighting ballasts. Personal computers constitute nonlinear loads since they incorporate switched-mode power supplies. The PC current is mainly dominated by the third and fifth harmonic components.

Different from a linear load, the harmonic currents cannot be corrected by the use of capacitors and inductors, but by the use of Harmonic Mitigating Transformers.

The more nonlinear loads connected, the higher the overall sum of harmonics. Harmonics can damage components like fuses and circuit breakers, and can cause utility meters to record wrong measurements.

Synergy Energy Inc.: THE SOLUTION

Since harmonics cause much more problems than simply overheating the transformers, it is more appropriate to make use of a resource that is able to reduce the system voltage distortion. Harmonic Mitigating Transformers are efficient in solving overheating and power quality problems generated by harmonics. The voltage distortion at the output is kept very low because of the cancellation of the harmonic mitigating fluxes within the transformer's windings.

Efficiency Levels

Transformers designed and manufactured by Synergy Energy Inc. meet and exceed the required efficiency levels of NEMA TP-1, CSA 802.2, and US Department of Energy (DOE) CSL-3 standards. Furthermore, the efficiency compliance with NEMA and CSA standards of the transformers are verified by, Intertek, the third party verification body which is one of the most trusted test organizations in the world.

COMING SOON

The Synergy Energy Inc. family has been working vigorously for some time now on a newly designed product and we are all extremely excited and proud for its release in the next couple of months.

Stay tuned as the release of this product WILL be a milestone in the electrical industry.
